Expensely Pro FAQ – Everything You Need to Know
Find direct answers to the most common questions users ask about Expensely Pro — from getting started to data privacy and everyday use.
Getting Started
Is the app free?
Yes. All core features — transaction logging, budgets, weekly reports, debt tracking, and check management — are completely free. There is no required paid plan to use the full app.
Is the app available on Android?
The app is currently available on Android only. Check the download page for the latest availability updates.
Do I need an account to start?
No. You can open the app and start logging transactions immediately without an email address or Google account. If you later want data sync across devices, connect a Google account — no data is lost during the upgrade.
What makes Expensely Pro different from other finance apps?
Most apps only track. Expensely Pro connects tracking, budgets, reports, debts, and checks in one integrated system with a clear weekly review cycle — designed to help you make one informed financial decision per week, not to overwhelm you with dashboards.
Daily Use
What is the difference between this and a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet needs disciplined manual upkeep, has no alerts, and does not connect spending to a budget automatically. The app updates your balance, budget, and weekly report the instant you save a transaction — in under a minute. No formula editing required.
Do I need a constant internet connection?
No. Every transaction saves to your device first. If you're offline the app queues the sync and sends it automatically when connectivity returns. You can track an entire week offline without losing anything.
How do I know my balance is correct?
The app calculates all balances from a single unified source and prevents any transaction that would create a negative balance. If you notice a discrepancy, open the account details and check for any duplicate or mis-categorised entries — edit or delete them and the balance updates instantly.
Can I log a transaction with a past date?
Yes. You can change the date when entering a transaction to record something you forgot. The reports will include it in the correct week based on its actual date.
Can multiple family members use separate accounts?
Each Google account has its own data. Family members can each have their own account on the same device or separate devices — data is not shared unless you export and share a backup manually.
Data and Privacy
Can I use the app without giving my real name or email?
Yes. The anonymous sign-in option requires no personal information at all. Your financial data stays entirely on your device.
What does the app collect?
Only what you enter: transaction amounts, categories, dates, and notes. The app does not access your bank accounts, contacts, photos, or location. Analytics are limited to screen-use events for product improvement — your financial figures are never shared with third parties.
What happens if I delete the app?
If you used Google sign-in, your data remains in the cloud and restores fully after reinstalling. If you used anonymous mode, local data is removed with the app unless you exported an encrypted backup first.
How does backup work?
From the settings screen you can export an encrypted backup file and save it anywhere you choose — local storage, cloud drive, or email to yourself. To restore, import the file after reinstalling. Backup is entirely manual and never runs in the background without your action.
Is the backup file secure?
Yes. The file is encrypted before it leaves the app. Even if someone else gets hold of the file, they cannot read it without the correct passphrase.
Features and Limits
Is there a limit on the number of transactions or accounts?
No practical limit. The app handles large transaction lists efficiently. It is a good idea to archive or close accounts you no longer use to keep reports clean.
Can I create custom spending categories?
Yes. In addition to the default categories you can add as many custom categories as you need — pets, side projects, hobbies, anything.
How do I handle recurring debts or checks?
You can set a recurring reminder on any debt or check. Each status update records a real transaction and syncs immediately when online.
Can I export my data?
You can export an encrypted backup for restore purposes. A plain summary export from the reports screen is also available for personal recordkeeping.
